Allan Caswell

Allan Caswell

Allan's performing career has taken him to nearly every town in NSW, every state of Australia, New Zealand and the USA. Along the way he managed to win 5 Golden Guitars at Tamworth, and write 'On The Inside' - the theme from 'Prisoner', which also won him 2 Gold singles and an ARIA.

His latest album, the retrospective 'Caswell Sings Caswell' on the Shoestring label, features this photo on the cover (by Geoff Creswell) of Allan playing his beloved Tomkins Guitar. The liner notes proudly proclaim, "...Allan Caswell plays TOMKINS GUITARS ...because he is an art lover".

On the Tomkins Showcase Volume One CD, Allan is joined by long-time buddy DAVE SKINNER. Dave is a master keyboardist who was once a member of Roxy Music, and who co-wrote this song (with John Kennett). It was originally a hit for the band 'Swanee'. For this version, ALLAN & DAVE enlisted the aid of violinist Wayne Goodwin (ex-Emmylou Harris Hot Band)....

The body of Allan's guitar is hollow and made from Poplar with a Camphor Laurel cap on the front. The Piezo system is a Mike Christian including an implanted preamp. The bridge and neck pickups are Seymour Duncans. The neck is vintage styled hard rock maple. The guitar is finished with nitrocellulose 'tobacco' burst lacquer, and the pickguard is handtooled leather featuring AC initials. The string type is acoustic.
Black guitar

Allan also plays his latest Tomkins Guitar (pictured right). This particular model is so black that it absorbs light (a black hole?) and is very difficult to photograph accurately!
